The sixth edition of Rotary Bucharest Atheneum Tennis Tour was held between September 23rd and September 26th, 2010 at Livone Tennis Club “Ilie Nastase” in Bucharest The lots for the conclusion of playing lists were drawn in the evening of September 21st, at Livone Tennis Club, before the members of Rotary Club Bucharest Atheneum, before the tour organization team and before registered players and sponsors. Participants were Rotary and non-Rotary members, with priority for the former, who were never professional players or registered members of any sports club.
Three groups were organized for this tour edition: a singles group with participants aged between 35 and 45, a singles group with participants over 45 years old and a doubles group. A total number of 19 players for singles and 13 pairs of double players were registered. Thus, we had 4 champions: Adrian Neacşu at singles for the category of under 45 years, Iulian Ghidel at singles for the category of over 45 years, Nicu Pârsu and Cătălin Rădulescu for doubles. Rotary Club Bucharest Atheneum has managed this year also to raise the funds necessary to provide hearing prosthesis for the children with hearing deficiencies from the “School for children with hearing problems”, a project with over five years of tradition organized by our Club. Some of the funds raised were directed to Cantemir Project, in which we were supported by Rotary Club Bucharest and Rotary Club Bucharest Continental. “Mihai Eminescu" International Academy, which has among its founding members two laureates of the Nobel Prize for literature, has initiated Cantemir Project, as part of the events occasioned by the celebration of Cantemir International Year (2010-2011), leaded by UNESCO. After 300 years, Cantemir’s manuscripts were brought back into the country. His work, of an unestimated value, concerns many countries: Romania, Russia, Turkey, Greece, Germany, Iran etc. and must be valued through its integral publishing (over 25.000 pages). A first international manifestation will be organized in the European Parliament in the second half of November 2010 and will include a Cantemirology Congress, in which several personalities from Romania, Russia and the Republic of Moldova will take part, an exposition of Cantemir’s manuscripts, the release of Van Roumpy’s volume of poems and the unveiling of Cantemir’s bust. We would like to thank our sponsors: Petrom, Micri Gold Bijuterii, Vredestein, KFC, Building Support Solutions, Cash Candy SRL, Cabinet avocatură Esterka, Ordmark SRL, Unidata, International Expert Travel. We would also like to thank the host of the event: Livone Tennis Club, resided in 13 Sos. Oltenitei St., and its special team of tennis professionals who arbitrated the tour and ensured the good evolution of the event.
We thank the players for the show offered, for being fair play and for participating again in this event. Rotary Club Bucharest Atheneum has managed again to fulfill the objectives set for the first quarter of Rotary year 2010-2011. President Anca Manea, Rotary Club Bucharest Atheneum
